The power of automation…
Welcome to my sixteenth weekly newsletter. It is Thursday October 21, 2021.
These are no curated links in this newsletter due to my year review special episode.
Automate all the things
Yes, my newsletter is a day late. But it has reasons. This week my family and I went on a week long break in a cabin in the Belgian forests. There is Wifi, but that's also pretty much it. Connectivity is super slow and I took a walk with my laptop onto a small hill to have good cellular reception over 3G to be able to send you this message.
It was a vacation planned a while ago, but it turned out to be a great way to prepare myself for the coming change in my life. A new job on November 1st. So next week will be a week filled with final handovers and bringing back all my equipment. Turns out I collected quite a bag full of stuff I need to bring back. What will be super fun next week it a team outing, in part due to my departure. We'll go go-karting.
About the automation, all my episodes just published this week. I love working ahead when possible to just keep things going while hands-off. I always look into things I can automate or make people self sufficient. The CLI I created for the Swift Weekly Brief is a nice example of that. Kristaps can just send out the "brief" on his own without much fuss by just running a terminal command. It saves a lot of messaging back and forth since it also contains an option to send to a test list allowing self served testing.
When interacting with people I like to focus on relation building. Proces is something best automated.
In this week's episode there were a couple links of note, so I did want to mention those.
And just to say something related to keyboards… I really wish this Kimiko PCB is back in stock soon. The Lily58 has ambient bottom lighting, but I think I will like the more aggressive pinky stagger more on the Kimiko. If you have any thoughts on it, let me know.
Conferences
Let me know if you know or hear of other great conferences of interest to iOS developers.
